Dual Enrollment
Updates Affecting Dual Enrollment for 2009-10
Purpose of dual enrollment:
Dual enrollment is designed to allow students to take courses they need that may not be offered at CCS or to allow them to get ahead in their college careers if they have fulfilled most of their graduation requirements by their senior year and do not have full schedules at CCS. Some colleges look at dual enrollment as a sign that students are willing to go the extra mile academically.
Who can dual enroll?
Crossroads Christian School policy: Seniors are the only ones allowed to leave campus to dual enroll during the school day. Our annual schedules will concentrate core classes before lunch as much as possible, so that if seniors have completed enough credits to graduate, they may leave school after lunch for dual enrollment courses elsewhere.
Students in lower classes can dual enroll on their own time (after school hours or through distance education choices). CCS will not allow 9th - 11th grade students to leave campus in the middle of the school day to go to dual enrollment class.
Will my dual enrollment course transfer to my college?
Each college/university will have a list of courses they accept from community colleges. Check your college's website for this kind of list.
Dual Enrollment at
Vance-Granville Community College
http://www.vgcc.edu/highSchoolStudents/dual-enrollment.cfm
NOTE: VGCC rules state that a student must be at least 16 years old by the date the class BEGINS.
Cost: Books & activity fees; tuition is waived.
How to be dual enrolled at VGCC:
- Confirm with the academic counselor (Mrs. Choplin) that you have fulfilled the requirements needed at CCS and that your schedule will allow it before applying for dual enrollment.
- Complete and submit 2 forms to the VGCC Admissions office (available in academic counselor’s office at CCS).
- Take the VGCC college placement tests and have acceptable scores, or provide SAT or ACT test results.
(Study guides available for these tests)
- Required: VGCC Compass Tests OR 500 each on Math/English for SAT
- Make sure you allow time for testing if you need to take the placement tests – you have to make an appointment so don’t wait until the day before you want to register!
- Complete the normal college registration process. Students may register during late registration based on available space. Because dual enrollment is “free” and for high school students, the community college gives the regular community college students first chance at registering.
- For fall 2009 semester (16 Week Term = August 18, 2009 – December 16, 2009) – can only register on the last day of registration (August 13, 2009; can be subject to change); you can not register online; must go to Main Campus – Student Affairs Bldg; Bldg. 8 on Main Campus.
- Remember that VGCC classes may start prior to the beginning of a high school term.
Students can take online or traditional classes. There may be some summer courses, but often that’s a light schedule. Watch for the fall schedules right after the July 4 holiday and the spring schedules to appear about mid-October.

Transcripts of Dual Enrollment Courses
When applying to college in your senior year, you must request a transcript from VGCC or any other college of any courses you complete through dual enrollment to be sent to your applying colleges. CCS will send transcripts of courses completed at CCS only, unless a course was a substitute for a CCS course.

*Got a Reader?
If you click on the College Planning Handbook link above and your computer won't open the document, you may need the free Adobe Reader program. The document is stored in a .PDF format, meaning that anyone with the Reader can download and open it. Webmasters use the .PDF format because they can convert any document to .PDF, no matter what program it was created in. So, for example, if you don't own Microsoft Word, you can still open a Word document if it's been saved in a .PDF format. You only need the free Adobe Reader.
Visit http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readstep2.html to download your free Adobe Reader program. On this page you can choose to uncheck the Adobe Photoshop Album Deluxe Starter Edition download to save time - it's an extra they throw in!
